Hey Friends! Happy Monday to you all!
I’m super excited to be back again this week with another fun project! Can you believe it?! Two blog posts back to back?! I don’t even know who I am right now. 😂
When the shop is closed on Mondays & Tuesdays, I like to work on a project or do a little decorating around the house. If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, then you’ve probably seen the progress I’ve made on our fall porch each week. I decided to alter from the traditional fall colors this year and go with more of a black & white theme. In staying with that theme, I’ve added some buffalo plaid to the porch this year as well. So, naturally I wanted some black & white buffalo plaid pumpkins too. Again, if you follow along on Facebook, you might have caught this tutorial live. I finished one set of pumpkins and added them to the porch. This week when I had some free time at the shop, I worked on a second set. I thought I’d take some step-by-step photos and share a tutorial on the blog as well. So without further ado, here is how you can created your own Painted Buffalo Plaid Pumpkins.
I bought some inexpensive faux pumpkins at Walmart. The small ones (shown here) were $2.98 each. The larger ones were $5.98 each.
I thought about spray painting them white to start, but the pumpkins are made of some type of foam and I was afraid that the spray paint would eat right through them. Airing on the side of caution, I decided to just use a white acrylic craft paint and a brush to paint the pumpkin white. It took two coats to get the white color I was looking for.
After I was finished painting the pumpkin white, I added a couple drops of black paint to the white to get a light gray color.
Then, I added some gray vertical stripes to the pumpkin.
After I was finished adding the vertical stripes, I went back and added three horizontal stripes to the pumpkin as well. One towards the top, one in the middle, and one toward the bottom. Once the gray paint was dry, I then went back to finish the fourth, and final step. I painted every area in which the horizontal and vertical lines intersected, solid black.
When you are finished, your pumpkin will look a lot like this! 😀
Cute, right?! Now, you can see that my lines are by no means perfect. There are a lot of little imperfections, but don’t worry about that. From a distance, you won’t notice them at all and neither will anyone else!
