Home Goals 2011

0 Flares 0 Flares ×
It seems as though a lot of the home decor blogs that I read have all been discussing their goals for their homes in 2011 & it has had me thinking about the things that I would like to accomplish this year in our own home. So I thought I would take time out to sit down and compile a short list…
In the 5 years that we have lived in this home, it has undergone many, many projects…
Too many to even list…
Just trust me when I say, it is a completely different home
than the one we originally purchased back in 2005.
My husband is always asking me…
“Are we ever going to be done with this home?”
Truth is, when you’re a homeowner are you ever really “done” with your home?
There is always something that needs to be done, something to repair, something to improve…
And it looks like 2011 is going to be another year of projects….
1. First thing I wanted to accomplish this year, and those of you who read this blog know that I am currently working on establishing a home office space. I will be unveiling my coat closet turned home office this Friday on the blog…so stay tuned for that! I may be posting a sneak peak between now & then as well! For those of you who missed my previous post, this is kinda the look I am going for….only on a smaller scale!

2. The carpet we purchased for this home has not held up like I had hoped it would & the longer I have to take care of this carpet….vacuum, shampoo, spot clean…I am sick of it! We have already had someone come in & do all the measuring and will soon be replacing the flooring in the kitchen, living room, and hallway for new laminate flooring. I currently have laminate in my kitchen & love it, but unfortunately the laminate that we have is no longer available…therefore we have to get all new! We will be getting a darker wood finish which I think is going to look fabulous with our new white cabinets! Just to give you an idea, here are some pictures…I just love the contrast of the white cabinets against the dark wood flooring!

3. Build the kids’ playroom in the back of our garage. We started this project last May…So far we have installed a window, closed in the door, & re-sided the back of the house. Now its just a matter of building the floor & putting up the walls. Hopefully, we can start on this in the spring when the weather starts to warm up a bit. These pictures represent my dream playroom…I know our playroom will probably never be this nice nor will it be kept this clean, but a girl can dream, right? Gotta love Pottery Barn Kids!

4. Take control of our garage! Seriously, no matter how many times we clean that thing out within weeks….it is a disaster AGAIN! In the 5 years that we have lived here I think I have only been able to park in it for a total of maybe 6 weeks! The rest of the time it has been used for storage & for junk! After the addition of the kids’ playroom, I would like to clean & organize everything & be able to FINALLY park in the garage! Hopefully in 2011 my garage will look more like this….

5. Learn to enjoy my home more! As much as I already do love this home, I constantly find myself looking at it & thinking about what I can do to make it better! I am also constantly struggling to keep it clean & looking perfect, but really a home isn’t a home unless you live in it & enjoy it! So I am going to try to do better with this & not get all up tight if things aren’t exactly picture perfect!

What about all of you? What are your home goals for this year?
What projects are you working on right now?
I would love to hear about them!
Leave me a comment & let me know!

  1. I can’t wait to see your new flooring and closet office!! How exciting. I think what you’ve already done is amazing and you should think about opening your own professional decorating service. I love reading your blog…it’s fun, and the before and after pictures are so good. It’s also a great way to stay in touch with you since you’re not at SIOC anymore! Congratulations on doing such a great job with your home…looking forward to future posts and pictures 🙂 Pam Sparling

    Tonya,

It’s your blog stalker (Kasey) lol. First, can’t wait to see pictures of the home office. Second, I love the flooring idea. I have wood laminate and I love it and it’s held up good with 3 boys. Third, Yes, I have a love affair with Pottery Barn Kids as well. And the boys have a playroom here and it doesn’t usually look like that. I remind myself that the whole point of a playroom is to keep the toys in there so they aren’t all over the house and in their rooms. It is a struggle to keep it clean and organized. But, it does look nice when it is clean and everything is in its place! And ugh, I hate our garage too. I do get to park in there, but on the other side is the 4-wheeler and my husbands stuff. We are currently saving for a pole barn so he can take all his stuff out there and then I can finish the garage and make it how I want it.

As for my goals for this house, here goes…

    1. To get my pictures framed and hung in the stairwell.

    2. To finish our landscaping in the spring.

    3. To paint 2 pieces of furniture red (SOON).

    4. To finish decorating the living room and figure out what to put on the walls.

    5. Repaint/redecorate the boys bathroom. The hold up is that I can’t find a paint color and shower curtain I like. I really have no ideas for that bathroom. It’s also the guest bathroom so I want it to be classy as well. Any ideas?

So far, that’s it. It’s a list in the making.

I too want to enjoy my house more, sometimes I view it more as a chore to keep it picked up and looking nice than as of my duty as mom.

Anyway, your blog inspires me and my husband is thrilled (sarcasim) lol.

    Your blog stalker,

    Kasey
