From Drab to Fab!

In addition to making flower pillows….my mom has also been working on reupholstering her furniture in her living room. She has a couch, love seat, and chair which she purchased 10 years ago…all coordinating pieces. She was tired of the floral print & was ready for something new, but didn’t want to spend the money to buy new furniture.
So…she decided to reupholster her existing furniture instead!
Even when shopping for fabric to reupholster furniture…you can really get into spending a lot of money. So, my mom starting researching on the internet about furniture reupholstering and came across Miss Mustard Seed. She has all kinds of great info when it comes to refinishing & reupholstering furniture. If you have never visited her site…you should definitely take a few minutes & check it out, especially if you are ready to do some refinishing or reupholstering of your own! She has great tips!
While browsing thru Miss Mustard Seed’s site….my mom came across a post on reupholstering with paint drop cloths! This was perfect considering she was wanting an off-white couch, not to mention drop cloths are inexpensive!
So, the transformation began….
This is a sneek peek at what the couch looked like before with the floral print…
(these pics were taken with my mom’s cell phone, sorry about the quality!)

She started out by bleaching the drop cloths per Miss Mustard Seed’s advice & then measured and cut the drop cloth to fit the couch….
She then pinned the pieces and sewed them together….
And this is what the couch looks like now….
How fabulous does this look!?!

She said she ended up using 3.5 packages of drop cloths. They come 6 foot by 9 foot and are about $10 per package. So for $40 she has a completely new couch & a great new look! She will be doing the same thing to her loveseat & chair…I will post pics of them as soon as they are completed!
Any of you out there tired of your worn out couch?
Maybe its not worn out, but just not in style anymore….
Consider using paint drop cloths to give your couch a facelift!
