DIY Wedding Word Banners…

1 Flares 1 Flares ×
I wanted to share with you all a quick little tutorial on how to make the word banners that we made for the wedding. If you missed wedding post, you can see it here.
I love all things typography, so I of course loved the idea of using these banners!
They were so quick, easy, & inexpensive to make & they really were the perfect added touch to the decor!
I especially loved the “Mr. & Mrs.” Banner for the head table….

You will need….
1.) Brown paper on a roll
(found with shipping materials at Walmart)
2.) Letter Stencils
3.) Craft Paint
4.) Stencil Brush
5.) Drinking Straws
6.) Tape
7.) Jute
8.) Muslin Fabric (optional)
1.) Decide what words you want/need for your banners.

We used the banners throughout the reception hall…on the head table, the cupcake table, & appetizer table.

Our banners included….”Mr. & Mrs.”, “Cupcakes”, & “Appetizers”

2.) Cut out the number of brown paper rectangles/squares you will need based on the letters in your words. We used a picture frame which measured 8.75″ x 6.75″ to trace out the shape we wanted.

Then cut them out.

3.) Stencil the letters onto the brown paper cut-outs using stencil brush & craft paint.

Allow plenty of time to dry.

4.) Cut drinking straws into 2″ pieces (doesn’t have to be exact) and tape to the back of the paper cut-outs.

The straws need to be taped in approximately same spot on the backside of the cut-outs so that they hang evenly.

5.) Thread jute into drinking straws.

6.) Hang your banner!

We tore muslin fabric into strips approximately 3.5″ wide and tied them into bows to add to each end of the banner just to add some cuteness!! 🙂 The bows were tied onto the jute.
(This step is completely optional!)

You could also give each cut-out a decorative edge with scallop scissors if you would like. We stuck with the straight edge for the wedding because the bride preferred the straight edge to the scalloped edge.

It’s all based on personal preference!
Just an another idea to think about though! 🙂

Thanks for stopping by & I hope you’ve enjoyed this tutorial!
