Hey Everyone! Happy Hump Day!
Can you believe that tomorrow is Thanksgiving?!
I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite side dishes for Thanksgiving is Green Bean Casserole!
Several years ago when I first began dating my husband & attending his family get togethers for the holidays, my mother-in-law threw me a curve ball when she put Velveeta in the green bean casserole. I was used to the traditional green bean casserole made with cream of mushroom soup, so you can imagine my surprise when I noticed cheese in the green beans. In fact, I’d be lying if I wasn’t somewhat disgusted with the idea. Cheese in the green beans?! Really?!
But, I decided to suck it up & give them a try….and Oh.My.Goodness.Y’all! It was like magic in my mouth! I had no idea what a heavenly combination cheese & green beans could be!
Never again will I go back to traditional green bean casserole. I will FOREVER be enjoying Velveeta with my green beans!
I know, I know…Velveeta isn’t the healthiest option out there. I’m pretty sure it isn’t even real cheese, but on Thanksgiving I make an exception! Everything in moderation friends! 🙂
So, with tomorrow being Thanksgiving, I thought I would share my mother-in-law’s Green Bean Casserole Recipe with you all! Perhaps I’ve even convinced you to try cheese in your green bean casserole! 🙂
p.s. the recipe is also super easy to make!!
- 6 - 15 oz Cans of French Cut Green Beans
- 1 - 32 oz Package of Velveeta
- 1 - 6 oz Can of French Onion Rings
- ¼ Cup Milk
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Drain green beans well & place into casserole dish.
- Cut 16-24 oz of Velveeta into cubes. Melt Velveeta in the microwave, mixing in ¼ cup milk gradually.
- Once Velveeta is thoroughly melted, pour over green beans. Sprinkle the top with french onion rings.
- Place dish in oven for 10-12 minutes or until onion rings get crispy.
YUM!!
I seriously can’t wait til tomorrow!! I’ll definitely be having more than one of helping of cheesy green bean casserole! 🙂
Do you put cheese in your green bean casserole or does your family enjoy the traditional version?!
What side dish are you looking forward to enjoying the most?
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families! Be sure to eat lots!!
Oh my goodness, does that sound delicious?! I’ll have to try this recipe soon — I think my husband will like anything that includes Velveeta in the ingredient list. 🙂 My favorite Thanksgiving side is the dressing. Hope you and your family have a wonderful turkey day!!
Thank you! Hope your family has a wonderful Thanksgiving as well!

Is it really supposed to be six 15 oz cans of green beans? That seems to be way too much.
