I know the title of this post is already throwing some of you for a loop!
Please, bare with me & keep reading…..ummmkay?!
I promise….it’s important!!
If you have been reading my blog for any amount of time, you probably know that I am good friends with Mandy, from House of Rose. For those of you who don’t know, her husband, Jeff, is also a blogger & has a pretty successful financial blog called Good Financial Cents.
Jeff has taken it upon himself to start a Life Insurance Movement & has been working diligently with other bloggers (115+) to bring awareness to this financial issue that so many families tend to forget about! In order to bring more attention to the movement, he has asked other bloggers to get involved, talk about the issue, & answer the question:
Now, I know what you are thinking….
“Tonya, you are a Home Decor/DIY Blogger….Really?! Why would you blog about life insurance?!”
A few different reasons…..
#1: I believe in the importance of life insurance.
#2: My husband is a financial advisor who’s specialty IS life insurance.
#3: It is something that has personally affected my husband & his family.
Perhaps, for you to really understand, we should just let him tell you the story…..Take away babe!
Hey Everyone, my name is Bobby & I’m married to the wonderful woman behind this here blog…
Side Note: We need an updated family photo like yesterday!! Ahem….moving on! |
Today I wanted to share my story with you….
When I was born in 1982, my dad was just 22 years old. Doing the responsible thing, he took out a term life insurance policy to protect his new family, just in case something unexpected were to happen. A few years later in 1985, my sister was born & the importance of life insurance became even more relevant to our young family. My dad knew that if anything were to happen to him, my mom would need all the financial support possible.
Fast forward several years later…..I was 12 years old, my sister was 9, & my dad was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at just 34 years old. The doctors gave him just a year to live. He underwent numerous rounds of chemotherapy & radiation. After just 8 short months, he lost his battle with the disease & passed away on his 35th birthday.
The life insurance proceeds that were paid to my mom after my dad’s passing took care of his funeral expenses & paid for his medical bills. When the time came, that money also put my sister & I through college and allowed us to graduate without the burden of student loans.
Four years ago, I got into the life insurance business and every week I meet with young families & business owners to discuss the importance of life insurance for financial security. As you can imagine, life insurance has played an intricate role in my life. I feel as if it is my duty to carry on my dad’s legacy & to share his story with every client that I meet.
If you are a young family with children, I can’t stress how important life insurance is! Life is full of unexpected twists & turns, and you never know when something might happen to you OR your spouse. One question that I repeatedly ask my clients….
“What kind of financial situation would your family be in if you didn’t make it home from work today?”
It’s definitely not something we want to think about, but definitely an important question to consider, especially if your family depends solely on your income to pay the bills, buy the groceries, etc.
For me, I KNOW, that if I don’t make it home from work today, that these three….
will financially be taken care of. I know that I will have done my part in making sure that their futures will be safe. I know that Tonya won’t have to scramble to pay our bills. I know that she won’t have to worry about finding a job. I know that the boys will have food to eat, clothes to wear, & that their college education will be paid in FULL. Life insurance gives our family a sense of security and peace of mind.
PLEASE, if you don’t have life insurance pick up the phone & get in touch with an advisor today!! Trust me when I say, YOU NEED IT!!!

Great post about a super important topic you guys!
I really loved that Bobby told his personal story. I actually never knew the exact circumstances about his dad’s passing and how important life insurance played a role in that. Thank you both for participating and for helping us spread the word about #LifeAWARE!
Great Information… Thanks for sharing..
Thanks for sharing your story, it’s such an important topic and more people need to jump in and buy life insurance… just in case!
Very important story. Thanks for sharing and I am so sorry for your loss. Your daddy was so young. :(. Would love to buy some life insurance through you because you seem knowledgable and I love that you personally experienced the benefits of life insurance. Where can I get in touch with your business to find out more about getting life insurance for my family? Thank you.
Hi there! If you can email me at tdiehl2005(at)yahoo(dot)com so that I can have your email address, I will forward your information to my husband & he will be in touch! Thank you so much for reading & for your comment!
Thank you for sharing this with the movement. I know what life insurance was, but Bobby’s story has really opened my eyes to what it actually does. Being a newlywed couple with no life insurance yet this has really made me think about the fact that we NEED to get it like last week. Thanks Bobby! (and Tonya)
I tell everyone how important life insurance is for a husband to give to his family, it is such an important gift and I personally experienced this as well. My late husband passed away at 44 yrs. of age, suddenly and unexpectedly. I am thankful for him having been smart and aware of the importance of life insurance for our family. I also carry life insurance on myself as well so I will not be a burden for my children. No one should be without life insurance! It is an investment for your family and so important!
Wow what a great story an good point to get across. Everyone should always have life insur for piece of mind! Bobby’s mom would not have been able to make ends meet without it. With already the pain an suffering of losing a loved one and knowing she still had two young children to raise the insurance made things so much easier with no worries!
Love you bob
