My Craigslist Dresser Makeover Reveal….

Hey Friends!!
How was your weekend?!
Ours was good! We spent most of our Saturday just relaxing at home with the kids & enjoying this beautiful weather!! Sunday was spent working on a project in our kitchen and I’m really excited to share it with all of you! I’m waiting for my dad to help me out with some electrical stuff & then I will need a bright sunny day to get some pictures too!! 🙂
So, I thought why not share my Craiglist Dresser makeover with you?!

You know…….since it’s been done for three weeks and all!!

For those of you who have been following along pretty regularly, you know what my dresser looks like, for those of you who are new to the scene, let’s take a look back…….shall we?!

Here is the before picture of my Craigslist find. I found it a few months back for $50.00!

I loved the shape of it & all of it’s little knobs, but I wasn’t loving the finish & it definitely needed a little TLC…

 It also needed new hardware…..

So after sanding, priming, painting, & a couple coats of polyurethane, this is what my little dresser looks like now….

I wanted the dresser to match my Blue Gallery Wall in the living room, so I had to have the paint color-matched for this piece. The color is called “Lake Cottage.” I have had MANY inquiries about this paint color & unfortunately, it was purchased at our local home improvement store (which is not a chain store like Lowes or Home Depot.) The brand of paints that they carry are not the same as those found at the chain stores, so giving you the paint color information is unfortunately NO HELP WHATSOEVER!! I’m really sorry about that & have learned my lesson!! I will no longer buy or use paint colors that I can’t pass on to you all!! Pinky swear!!

I painted the dresser using a latex paint & then gave it two coats of polyurethane to seal it. I kept the little round knobs, but replaced the other handles with new hardware. I gave all of the hardware (new & old) a couple coats of a oil-rubbed bronze spray paint to get the look I was going for.

I know in the pictures the hardware looks black, but its really a dark, dark brown!

And of course I took pictures of it from every angle, because that’s just what I do!! 🙂

The dresser is sitting below my Vintage Shelf Vignette that I posted a couple weeks ago…

Now I just have to find a few things to sit on top my dresser to tie it all together!! I’m definitely thinking about a lamp, a decorative tray, maybe some books, and I would LOVE to find an old vintage fan!! Wouldn’t that be fun?!

We shall see what I come up with!!

Until then, I hope you are all having a fabulous Monday!!

I think you should reconsider your decision to stop shopping at that local hardware store! Wright’s does such a great job on helping with paint/any do it yourself questions compared to Lowes! We decided not to buy paint at Lowes after our last painting adventure! Not to mention the benefit of shopping local! Lovely job on the dresser!

  6. Turned out great, so I’m gonna go over to our craigslist and see what they got. I think I’m ready for that next step in blogland… “the craigslist redo”.

  42. So, am I missing something? I don’t see any tutorial of how you did this. Pintrest said DIY tutorial?

  43. Robin Bass says:

Hi. You did an awesome job with the dresser. I’ve painted a couple of things using primer as my base to prevent the paint from peeling. It’s been 50/50 on the peeling. In your directions you used a latex paint. Anything before that to prep the furniture for painting. Thanks.

  44. Hi. I was just wondering which brand oil rubbed bronze spray paint you used? I used Krylon on my own dresser knobs over the weekend and they didn’t turn out as brown/bronze as yours. How many coats did you apply? Your hardware DOES look brown/bronze in your pictures, not black at all.
    Thanks.
