Conversation Hearts-Valentine Photography Props

I was approached by a very talented, photographer friend of mine, Katie a couple months back. She was wondering if I could whip up some conversation hearts for her to use as photography props for some Valentine’s Day photos for her son & for her clients.

She described to me what she was wanting, and although I’ve never made any photography props before, I was fairly certain I could get the job done!

Here is a picture of her son, Jack with one of the conversation hearts….

PRETTY DARN CUTE, RIGHT?!

I’m just going to share a quick tutorial with you today to show you how I made them!

First, I started with this little foam heart that I purchased at Hobby Lobby for $1.99

I used this heart as my pattern to trace & cut-out the 12 conversation hearts that Katie was wanting.

She asked that they be sturdy, so I decided to make them out of cardboard. I bought a project display board similar to this one (again, at Hobby Lobby) to make the hearts out of. You can use any cardboard that you might having laying around the house, or you might choose to buy a smaller piece of cardboard. I purchased this display board only because I knew that I would be able to get the 12 hearts out of it that Katie was wanting.

I also purchased cardstock to coordinate with colors of the original conversation heart candies….

I also purchased a red cardstock for the sayings that would go on each heart (see below.)

And this is where I kind of stopped taking pictures for a while….

LISTEN UP!!

I used the foam heart that I showed above & traced 12 hearts out of project display board (cardboard). I also used the foam heart to cut out 12 hearts out of the cardstock that I bought. Then, with some help from my hubby, we cut all of the hearts out. I used a glue stick to glue the cardstock hearts onto the cardboard heart cut-outs.

GOT THAT?!
Ok, moving on….

Then, I used my cricut machine to cut out all of the letters for the sayings that I was going to use on the conversation hearts…

I used the glue stick again, to secure the letters/sayings to each heart…
