DIY Rustic, Chic Fall Wedding

I’m sooooo excited to show you all the pictures from the wedding mom & I decorated for a few weeks ago!I had made a few posts leading up to the wedding & shared with you a few tutorials along the way…however, we got so busy making stuff that I didn’t have time to post anymore! So, to make up for that I will be posting a few more following this post!

This is what the reception hall looked like the Thursday night before the wedding….

Pretty blah, right?!

They had the reception at the holiday inn “ballroom”….its actually 3 conference rooms opened up to one another. It makes for a long & narrow space to decorate, but because it was a smaller space, it definitely made our job a little easier!

So after several hours of decorating Thursday night & all day Friday, we managed to transform the space into this….

Well….what do you think?!Do you LOVE it?!We do!! 🙂
The backdrop for the headtable was by far my favorite part of the decor! We built it using 4×8 sheets of foam insulation board that we purchased at Lowes for around $12.00 a sheet.
The foam board was super lightweight & easy to work with!

We just attached the burlap to the foam board with pins & duct tape. The white curtains were made out of white twin size flat sheets from Walmart. We just gathered & pinned the curtains at the top of the foam board & tied them back using two tissue paper pom-poms.

We used larger tissue paper pom-poms to line the top of the backdrop as well to add to the “chic” flare we were going for! 48 more pom poms were hung from the ceiling as well to create some drama in the space.
The framed monogram was previous project that I posted earlier in this series. You can read about it here.

The “fireplace mantel” was actually made out of a footboard to an old antique bed my mom had. She wasn’t using it anymore, so we utilized it for the wedding! A tutorial on this will be coming in the next few days! Update: You can find the full tutorial HERE.

The fireplace mantel was then decorated with a few knick-knacks that we had made for the wedding & also some items that my mom had in her own home…

The fireplace mantel was distressed to give it a little more character…

I’m sorry ya’ll…I couldn’t help but take a bazillion pictures of this,
so I will just quit talking for a bit & let the pictures speak for themselves…

The “Mr. & Mrs.” banner was one of few different word banners that we made for the reception.

I will be posting a tutorial on these as well…

The bride had already chosen her bridesmaid gowns before we started talking about the decor. She had gone with a red/wine color for the gowns, originally thinking that she was going to be using the traditional orange, red, yellow fall decor. Then I found this picture on Pinterest & our plans quickly changed….

We knew that we would have to still incorporate the red color into the decor, so there were red accents in the floral arrangements & bouquets (which I failed to get pictures of…..Epic Fail!)

These pumpkin centerpieces were one of two different centerpieces used for the guest tables…

The other tables were decorated with a grouping of glass jars & candles like these…

These centerpieces were easy & cheap to put together, but looked fantastic on the tables! The large glass cylinder was $1.00 from the Dollar Tree & the other two mason type jars came in cases of 12 for around $8.00, making them less than $1.00 a piece. We wrapped the different jars with white burlap, added some jute trim, stenciled a monogram & added paper leaves/roses, to give them that little touch of cuteness! The pumpkins we bought for $1.00 piece at Big Lots & painted each one with a cream craft paint. Update: You can find the full tutorial on these centerpieces HERE.

Paper roses made out of aged book pages were laid around the base of the centerpiece along with some acorns that I gathered out of my moms yard…

A single rose was also added to the tall glass cylinder with a few twigs using hot glue…

We used floating candles for the tall glass cylinder & large mason jar & a small votive candle for the smaller mason/jelly jar.

My mom & I made 220 of these slipcovers to cover the ugly red vinyl chairs that the hotel ballroom provided for the wedding. We were able to make them pretty cheap using white twin flat sheets from walmart. The sheets were $5.00 a piece & we were able to get 7 slipcovers from each sheet! The bow was an additional cost, but still all-in-all the were a whole lot cheaper than the slipcovers the hotel rented out for $4.75 a chair!!!
Crazy, huh?

A lot of blood, sweat, & tears went into these slipcovers, but they made all of the difference in the world for the decor!!

To accommodate more guests, there were 6 cocktail tables set up in the foyer area of the ballroom. We quickly added just a small piece of burlap, a few candle holders, & acorns to these tables to spruce them up a bit…

Instead of a wedding cake, the bride & groom decided on cupcakes for the reception. We didn’t make the cupcakes, but I couldn’t help but take a few pictures of them. They smelled incredible!

The cupcakes were all in fall flavors like pumpkin, caramel, etc…D.E.L.I.S.H!!!

The basket my mom made for the cards was placed on the gift table along with a framed subway art gift that I made for the bride & groom using some vinyl I had purchased through Groopdealz, some burlap, & a frame.

    With the whole thing that

seems to be developing within this particular subject material,
a significant percentage of points of view are actually rather stimulating.
However, I beg your pardon, because I do not subscribe to
your entire plan, all be it exciting none the

less. It appears to everybody that your opinions

are not totally rationalized and in fact you are yourself not really

totally confident of your argument. In any case I did
    enjoy examining it.

When inspecting the base of the board, be wary of cracks or deep cuts as these
are difficult to repair. Tron’s original soundtrack by Wendy Carlos never left an impression with me either even being a film score and electronica fanatic. You can go for a more costume like look by thinking of the original Material Girl and donning large, sparkly rhinestone or cubic zirconia pieces.

What kind of fabric are the bows on the table made of? Did you just cut strips and tie them?

My daughter is getting married in two weeks and we would like to do a similar backdrop- my hubby is handy but I just would like to know how you made the entire thing stand up against the wall

    • Hi Karen!
The foam insulation board that we used was super lightweight. We did not have to attach it the wall of the hotel at all. The faux fireplace mantel that we made was sturdy enough & heavy enough to keep the foam from fall over. If you needed some extra support or wanted to attach it to the wall, you could think about using command strips or lots of sticky tack! Good luck!!

  31. If you don’t mind me asking.. What did yall use for the chair sashes? I am getting married in less than 30 days, and I wanted burlap sashes but it is super expensive. My wedding theme is the rustic chic look, and I will have burlap table runners. If you have any thoughts or ideas on what I should use as a chair cover sash please advise! haha.. Thanks 🙂

  32. Simply Divine! Did you say you made the framed poem too?
