 Hey Y’all!

Happy Tuesday!

I wanted to stop by today & take a minute to share my second project for this weekend’s Michaels & Hometalk In-Store Pinterest Party Event.  If you have no idea what I’m talking about, then be sure to check out my post from yesterday for details and to check out the Layered Burlap Monogram I shared!

Today’s project is just one of the many possible projects for this weekend’s party….this easy Valentine’s Day Chalkboard Pennant Banner.

I know it’s not the traditional Valentine’s day colors, but if you’ve been following this blog for sometime, you know I don’t usually go with traditional holiday colors!  I’m rebel like that!

But really, I just couldn’t help myself when I came across this beautiful scrapbook paper at Michaels. Can you blame me?!

So pretty….definitely reminds me of spring! 🙂

And if your weather has been anything like ours, you need all of the reminders you can get right about now. Am I right?!

I thought so!! Don’t worry…I totally feel your pain!

Anyway…..

After I found the beautiful paper you see above, I then stumbled upon this aisle of chalkboard goodness at Michaels……

Sa-Woon!!

I mean really, is there anything they haven’t covered here?!

I’ll be honest…..I really wanted one of everything, but there’s this thing called a budget & I was trying to stick to it! 🙂

So, I gathered some supplies & brought them home to start crafting….

**Side note: I didn’t end up using the chalk marker set you see in the photo….I’ll explain why a little later. In addition to the supplies you see above, you will also need a hot glue gun & glue sticks.

I started the project by using the wooden pennant as my template for the banner. I traced out the shape of the pennant on the backside of the paper (not shown) & cut it out.

I picked up these blank chalkboard pennants from the chalkboard aisle at Michaels. They already came with the little holes along the edges. I bought a thin, coral colored ribbon & weaved it in & out of the holes. I then cut off the ends of the ribbon & hot glued them to the backside of the pennant to keep the ribbon secure.

When it came time to stencil my letters onto the chalkboard pennants, I ran into a little bit of a problem. The chalk markers kept wanting to run underneath the stencil! 🙁  I think if I would have had some spray adhesive on hand, that I could have used it to adhere the stencil to the chalkboard & prevented the markers from running, but I was out!  Darn the luck!! So I decided I would just has to improvise & resorted to using plain ole’ white chalk instead.  I did however, sharpen the tip of the chalk with a pencil sharpener to give me a fine point….always makes things so much easier!

Once my letters were stenciled to the chalkboard pennants, I then hot glued them to the scrapbook paper pennants. Then I used a hole punch to punch holes in the corners of the pennants & strung my ribbon thru to make my banner.

And that’s it…..

Easy, Peasy!! 🙂

This Valentines Day Banner would look great hanging from a fireplace mantel, putting the finishing touches on your Valentine’s Day decor. Or you could hang it from a shelf, mirror, old window, or even a wood pallet as seen below to create an adorable Valentine’s Day vignette.

Like I said earlier, this project is just one of many possible projects you could make at this weekend’s in-store Pinterest Party!!

I’ll be representing Hometalk at the Michaels Store in Shiloh, IL and I’d love for you to come spend an afternoon crafting with me!! If all goes as planned, I’ll be making another chalkboard banner similar to this one & assisting customers with their crafts!!  It’s gonna be a lot of fun!! You can RSVP to my local event HERE.
