BBQ Pork Steaks in The Crock Pot

Hey Friends!!

I don’t know about where you guys live, but here in Southern Illinois, we love us some BBQ pork steak! Throughout the summer months, we prepare it on the grill, but during the winter months, its a bit too cold for that!

Last weekend my hubby was craving BBQ pork steaks, but considering the snow that covered our back deck, he opted not to do any grilling. Instead, he did a little research online & came across this recipe from Food.com for BBQ Pork Steaks in the Crock Pot! Ah-Mazing!

Just throw all of your ingredients in & cook it on low for about 8 hours….Voila, DELICIOUS & TENDER BBQ Pork Steak!

Ingredients:
4 pork steaks
2 large onions – chopped thin (we only used one onion & felt like it was more than enough)
1 teaspoon oil
1 cup water
1/2 cup vinegar
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon chili powder
salt & pepper

Directions:
Season steaks with salt & pepper (no measurements, just use your own judgement) before placing them inside the crock pot. Once you place the steaks inside the crock pot, add your oil. Using tongs, begin turning the pork steaks inside the slow cooker until each one is coated well. Then, add your chopped onions & all other ingredients listed above. Cover the crock pot & cook on low for approximately 8-9 hours.

Enjoy!

I also wanted to say that I’m not a huge onion person, but the onions in this recipe taste AMAZING after cooking in the ketchup, vinegar, & worcestershire sauce for several hours….so, don’t let the onions turn you off…give them a try! 🙂

  1. Sounds absolutely delish, thanks for sharing I can’t wait to try it!

  2. I am not quite sure what a pork steak is. Is it a pork chop type or a larger piece of meat? It is hard to tell from the picture as it is covered with onion, but the recipe sounds good and I am always interested in good slow cooker recipes. Actually, looking back at the picture, it doesn’t look like anything I have ever seen at the butcher. Do you remember was the specific cut of pork was so I can ask the butcher for it? Thanks.

    • Hi Debby! I’m not sure if pork steaks are a southern thing or just a midwest thing, but you can buy them at any grocery store in our area. They come in packages of four, six, or eight and are just labeled “pork steak.” They are definitely larger than a pork chop. I’m sorry I’m not much help! Here is what I found when I Googled “pork steak”…..

    • Wow, thanks for your response and the research. It never occurred to me to Google it. I will check with my butcher the next time I am at the grocery store. I live in CA and maybe they have been in the meat case before but I never noticed them. Thanks again.
