DIY Pencil Vase….Back To School Teacher Gift

Hey Friends!
I don’t know about where you live, but for us, tomorrow starts the beginning of the NEW school year! CRAZY!! Where did the summer go?! I am looking forward to getting back to a normal schedule, but gonna miss having Parker home throughout the day!
I always like to make a little something for Parker’s teacher every year & of course, this year was no exception to the rule! I wanted to share with you the quick & easy DIY Back-To-School gift I made this year, which was inspired by this project I found on Pinterest.

I bought a large can of soup & a package of pencils (I ended up using 30 pencils total). I tore the label off the soup can, emptied it, and cleaned it out well.

I used a hot glue gun to adhere the pencils to the soup can…
I just ran a bead of hot glue down the length of the can & then placed the pencil on the can, making sure to line the end of the pencil up with the bottom of the can.
I just repeated this process all the way around the entire can until it was completely covered in pencils.
I bought a bouquet of daisies at Walmart for about $5.00 and trimmed the stems to fit the new vase appropriately. I added water & the plant food that was provided with the bouquet into the vase before arranging the flowers the way I wanted them.
Then I just added a cute little ribbon to complete the look!

I love how easy this project was to complete & how adorable it turned out! I don’t know about Parker’s teacher, but if I were a teacher, I would absolutely LOVE to get something like this from one of my students!! I could see myself keeping the vase on my desk, continually fill it with flowers throughout the school year, & smiling every time I look at it! 🙂
I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial!

  13. I love the blue bow you added as a nice finish touch.

  14. What a great idea! We don’t have a lot of extra money right now but I know this is doable. The only thing I’d change is to use double sided tape instead of hot glue. This way the teacher can dismantle it when the flowers die and put the pencils to good use. I think I’ll make one for the entryway too though- with hot glue so it lasts longer for seasonal use.
